Define Rotation

If you want to model the flow in the coordinate system rotating with the rotating equipment, you can enable the Rotation option.

Restrictions and Limitations

Note that the Rotation option is incompatible with the High Mach number flow option.

Procedure

  1. In the Wizard or General Settings on the Analysis Type tab, select the Rotation check box.
  2. Select an appropriate Type of rotation:
    • Global rotating. With this option the model and the global coordinate system are considered rotating with specified angular velocity. So it is applicable when all non-rotating model components are axisymmetrical with respect to the selected rotation axis. See “Global rotating” for details.

    • Local region(s) (Averaging). This option allows to simulate fluid flows in regions surrounding rotating solids, which are not bodies of revolution by specifying multiple local rotating reference frame within the model in cases where the rotor-stator interaction is weak.     • Local region(s) (Sliding). This option allows to simulate fluid flows in regions surrounding rotating solids, which are not bodies of revolution by specifying multiple local rotating coordinate systems within the model in cases where the rotor-stator interaction is strong.   3. If you have selected the Global rotating option:
    1. Click and in the Rotation Axis dialog box specify the rotational axis.

    2. Specify an Angular Velocity value (ω) which obeys the right-handle rule.
