Export Results to a Simcenter Data File (SCD5)

The Simcenter Data file (SCD5) is a standard file format based on HDF5 (Hierarchical Data Format, Version 5) which provides a robust and efficient file exchange of solution data between Simcenter products.

You can interpolate pressure and temperature stationary or transient fields to the existing SCD5 file or export the existing structural (FEM) mesh with pressure and temperature loads as an SCD5 file.

Procedure

  1. Under Input File, in Mesh Type  list select the desired mesh type to interpolate the selected parameter:
    • Flow Simulation FEM Mesh allows you to use the calculation mesh of the structural analysis.

      Restriction:

      This option is available if the Structural option is enabled on the Analysis Type tab of the General Settings or Wizard dialog.

    • SCD5 Mesh allows you to interpolate the parameter distribution through nodes of the selected SCD5 mesh.

      Then in the Input File  input field, type the name of the existing *.scd5 file or click Browse  and select the desired source file.

  2. If the Flow Simulation FEM Mesh is selected, under Selection select model components and faces on which you want to export the loads distribution.

    The selected components and faces are listed in the Components/Faces to Apply  list.

    If you want to split the selected components into faces, select the desired components in the selection list and click List All Component Faces  to list all faces belonging to these components (see “Selection List” for details).

    If you want to export parameters on all the faces which are the solid-fluid boundaries, click Use entire geometry.

  3. Under Export Location  select the desired mesh elements:
    • All allows you to export parameters in all mesh elements.

    • Cell or Face Centers allows you to export parameters in centers of cells and faces only.

    • Nodes allows you to export parameters in nodes only.

  4. Under Loads select loads to export.

    If you want to select parameters of a specific type, in the Parameter Filter  list select one of the following selection mode:

    • All. Allows you to display and select all available parameters.

    • Surface. Allows you to display and select the parameters specified on the model surfaces only.

    • Volume. Allows you to display and select the parameters specified in the fluid or solid volumes only.

    • Mesh Only. Allows you to export the coordinates of the mesh cells only.

    Then select the desired parameters:

  5. For a Time-dependent (transient) analysis results, the additional group Time History appears. Under Time History you can select time moments for which you want to export the parameters values.
    Note:

    The time step of results outputs is specified under the Time-dependent option in the Analysis Type dialog box of the Wizard or in the Calculation Control Options dialog box during the definition of the time-dependent task (see “Analysis Type” and “Saving Results and Backup Files”).

  6. Under Output File specify the full path to the export results by typing the desired file name in the Output File  input field or by clicking Save As  and selecting the desired destination. By default, this name is the project name and the destination directory is the <project directory>.
