Initial Conditions (Tracer Study)

Creating a tracer initial condition allows you to specify an initial tracer mass fraction in specific fluid regions, different from the default initial conditions.

In this case, a component (a part or subassembly in assemblies, as well as a body in multibody parts) must be used to represent a fluid region.

Procedure

  1. Open the Initial Condition  dialog:
    • Under the created Tracer Study item in the Flow Simulation Analysis tree, right-click the Initial Conditions item and select Insert Initial Condition.

    The Initial Condition dialog opens.

  2. Under Selection, select a component for which you want to specify the initial condition in the graphics area (see “Selection List” for details).

You can also select a component or a solid body in the flyout FeatureManager design tree.

    Note:

The selected solid body must be disabled in the Component Control to be no longer treated as a solid domain in the analysis.

These components appear in the Components/Faces to Apply the Initial Condition  list.

    Note:

If you want to specify local initial conditions for tracer inside a closed internal volume within the model, you can select any face bounding this internal volume, and it will be recognized by Flow Simulation as the fluid region to apply the initial conditions, so you do not need to create a component representing the fluid region and then disable it.

    Tip

To quickly select components on which you have specified an initial condition, or volume source, select the corresponding feature in the Flow Simulation Analysis tree. All components belonging to the feature will be automatically selected.

  3. Under Initial Conditions you can also specify following parameters:
    • Specify the value of the tracer’s mass fraction.

If you want to specify a coordinate-dependent value, click Dependency  to the right of the parameter value input box (see “Dependency” for details).

    • Select a reference coordinate system in case you intend to specify non-uniform mass fraction distribution.

The reference Coordinate System  selected by default is the Global Coordinate System (see “Global Coordinate System” for details).

      Tip

You can replace the default coordinate system by selecting your coordinate system in the flyout FeatureManager design tree.

To create a coordinate system, click Insert > Reference Geometry > Coordinate System.

If you want to use a cylindrical Coordinate System, select the axis of the specified Coordinate System as the Reference axis. The selected Coordinate System and Reference axis also define a local spherical coordinate system.

  4. Click OK .

    -or-

Click Keep Visible  before clicking OK  to keep the dialog open and define more initial conditions.

Results

The new initial condition item appears in the Flow Simulation Analysis tree.

To edit the definition of an initial condition, in the Flow Simulation Analysis tree, double-click the initial condition item, or right-click the item and select Edit Definition.
