Make a Design of Experiments and Optimization Study

Allows you to create a number of experiments (scenario design points) where the selected input variables are varied within a defined maximum and minimum range, which can then be solved, and conduct an optimization study for more than one input variable by using the internal optimization technology.

Procedure

  1. Open the Parametric Study  dialog:
    • On the ribbon, click Flow Simulation > Solve > New Parametric Study.

    • In the menu, select Tools > Flow Simulation > Solve > New Parametric Study.

    • In the Flow Simulation project or analysis tree, right-click the project name and select New Parametric Study.

    • In the Flow Simulation project tree, right-click the Parametric Studies item and select New.

    • In the Flow Simulation analysis tree right-click the desired condition item or goal and select Parametric Study.

The Parametric Study pane appears at the bottom of the screen.

  2. In the Parametric Study Name input field, type the desired study name.
  3. If you have a previously created parametric study for the current project, click Load Study  and select the *.fwps file.

If you want to save the current parametric study settings, click Save Study As , then select the destination directory and specify the file name.

  4. Select Design of Experiments and Optimization  study to conduct an optimization study for more than one input variable by using the internal optimization technology.
  5. On the Input Variables  tab, select input parameters to vary.

Then define value variations where applicable.

    See “Input Variables” for details.

  6. On the Output Parameters  tab, select goals and plots of interest.

    See “Output Parameters” for details.

The selected goals, graphic plots, XY plots and point, surface and volume parameters appear on separate tabs as the Compare tool (see “Compare Tool” for details).

In addition to the standard Compare actions you can remove unnecessary design points by using the Filter of Input Parameter  dialog.

On Goals tab you can also edit the list of displayed goals by using the Filter of Goals  dialog.

  7. On the Scenario  tab, customize experiments manually, if necessary.

Then specify the calculation options and click Run  to start the study.

    See “Scenario” for details.

  8. If you want to save all output images and plots to the selected folder by clicking Save Results to Folder .
    Note:

Note, that the previously saved plots and images will be overwritten.

  9. Click OK  to save the current parametric study to the active project.

Results

The new Design of Experiments and Optimization item appears under Parametric Studies in the Flow Simulation project tree.

To edit definition of an existing Parametric Study, in the Flow Simulation project tree, double-click the Parametric Study item, or right-click it and select Open.
