Mesh Plots

Allows you to display the computational mesh cells in a section view or on the selected model faces or surfaces. The mesh cells are displayed as a contour view and can be colored by parameters governing the mesh refinement.

Procedure

  1. Under Surface select model faces or surfaces on which you want to display the parameter distribution.

    The selected faces and surfaces are listed in the Surfaces  list.

    You can also select components. If you want to split the selected components into faces, select the desired components in the selection list and click List All Component Faces  (see “Selection List” for details).

    • If you want to display mesh cells on all the faces which are the solid-fluid boundaries, click Use all faces.

    • If the Use all faces option is selected, you can also enable the Cut with section option to cut the selected surfaces and/or faces with the plane or planar face specified under Section.

    • If the Cut with section option is selected, you can reverse the cutting direction by clicking Flip.

  2. Under Section select one of the following options to specify the section plane in which you want to display the results:
    • Reference . Creates a plane parallel to the selected plane or planar face or normal to the selected curve.

      1. Select a plane in the flyout FeatureManager design tree or click a planar face in the graphics area to select Section Plane, Planar Face or Curve , in which you want to display the results.

        Restriction:

        The only requirement for assemblies is that you must use planes belonging to the top-level assembly.

      2. To adjust the plot plane position:

        • Click and drag the arrow handles at the center of the plot plane in the graphics area.

        • Use the slider, arrows or type a value in the Offset  box to move the plot plane.

    • XYZ Planes . Creates a plane parallel to one of the default planes.

      1. Select one of the default planes.

      2. To adjust the plot plane position:

        • Click and drag the arrow handles at the center of the plot plane in the graphics area.

        • Use the slider, arrows or type a value in the Offset  box to move the plot plane.

    • Normal to Screen . Allows you to define the plane normal to the screen.

      • Normal to Screen. Allows you to define the section plane normal to the screen. The plane is specified through two reference points.

        To specify points press the mouse button where you want the first point to be, drag to the second point and release the mouse button. You can also type the X and Y coordinates of each point. Coordinates are specified in pixels with respect to the left bottom corner of the graphics area.

      • Normal to Screen, Vertically. Allows you to define the section plane normal to the screen and vertical.

        To define the plane, click in the graphics area or type the X (Y) coordinate of the reference point. Coordinates are specified in pixels with respect to the bottom left corner of the graphics area.

      • Normal to Screen, Horizontally. Allows you to define the section plane normal to the screen and horizontal.

        To define the plane, click in the graphics area or type the X (Y) coordinate of the reference point. Coordinates are specified in pixels with respect to the bottom left corner of the graphics area.

      Note:

      For the Normal to Screen (Vertically, Horizontally) mode, fix the selected section plane. Click Fix  to fix the plane while you rotate, move or pan the model.

  3. Under Color By specify the coloring options.

    In the Parameter  selected surfaces and planes:

    • If you want to color them using a fixed color, select Fixed Color and click Color  button to specify this color.

    • If you want the selected surfaces and planes to be colored in accordance with the distribution of the parameter, select this parameter. To see how a parameter changes within the specified range, click Adjust Minimum/Maximum and Number of Levels  and specify the Number of Levels  and the parameter Minimum  and Maximum  values, which are the lowest and highest values to be used for coloring. See also “Color Bar Settings”.

  4. Under Mesh specify the mesh visualization options.
    • Color by . Allows to change the default mesh color. Click Color  button to specify this color.

    • Medium to Display. Allows you to select the types of cells which are of interest.

      Restriction:

      It is only available if both the Fluid Flow and the Conduction options are enabled on the Analysis Type tab of the General Settings or Wizard dialog.

      • In fluid and solid. Displays all computational mesh cells at the plot.

      • In fluid. Displays only fluid cells at the plot.

      • In solid. Displays only solid cells at the plot.

  5. Under Options specify the mesh visualization options.
    • Preferred Media . Allows you to select the desired domain: Fluid or Solid.

      Restriction:

      It is only available if both the Fluid Flow and the Conduction options are enabled on the Analysis Type tab of the General Settings or Wizard dialog.

  6. Under Crop Region define the 3D box that crops the mesh visualization area (see “Crop Region (Mesh)” for details).
  7. Click OK .

    Click Keep Visible  before clicking OK  to keep the dialog open and proceed with the plot definition.
