Specify a Direction for Anisotropic Thermal Conductivity

Allows you to specify a direction or axis for a solid material with unidirectional or axisymmetrical/biaxial thermal conductivity type.

Restriction:

The directions and axes available for selection are parallel to the Global Coordinate System axes (see “Global Coordinate System” for details).

Prerequisites

This option is available if the Conduction option is selected in the Wizard or General Settings dialog and the default solid material has the Unidirectional or Axisymmetrical/Biaxial type of thermal conductivity.

Procedure

  1. On the Solids tab, click Anisotropy  button.
  2. Depending on the thermal conductivity type specify the anisotropy direction or axis.
    • If the solid has the Unidirectional thermal conductivity type, select Direction.

    • If the solid has the Axisymmetrical/Biaxial thermal conductivity type, select Axis of global coordinate system defining the direction for Axial (Transverse) thermal conductivity.

  3. Click OK.
