Specify Global Mesh Settings

The Global Mesh Settings dialog allows you to change the parameters governing the automatic Flow Simulation procedures of constructing the initial computational mesh.

Procedure

  1. Open the Global Mesh  dialog:
    • In the Flow Simulation Analysis tree, right-click the Global Mesh item and select Edit Definition.

    • On the ribbon, click Tools > Flow Simulation > Mesh > Global Mesh.

    • On the toolbars, click Global Mesh on the Flow Simulation Main toolbar.

    • In the menu, select Tools > Flow Simulation > Global Mesh.

    • In the Flow Simulation Analysis tree, right-click the Mesh item and select Global Mesh.

  2. Under Type, select the desired mode to specify the mesh settings:
    • Automatic . The mesh is controlled by the Level of initial mesh that governs the number of Basic Mesh cells and the default procedure of mesh refining in the model’s narrow channels (see “Specify Automatic Settings” for details).

    • Manual . The mesh is controlled by the Control Planes that governs the basic mesh cells and the refinement settings that governs the splitting the basic mesh cells (see “Manual Settings for Global Mesh” for details).

  3. Change values of parameters governing the procedures of constructing the global initial mesh.

    The set of parameters is depending on the selected type.

  4. Click OK  to apply changes and close the dialog.

    Click Keep Visible  before clicking OK  to keep the dialog open and continue adjusting global mesh settings.

Results

The Global Mesh Settings are applied to the entire Computational Domain. For example, when specifying a mesh refinement in narrow channels, you do not point exactly to the computational domain region where it is applied, so it will be applied to all regions having the same characteristics.

If you want to specify different mesh settings in a local region, you can use the Local Mesh dialog (see “Local Mesh” for details).

The local region can be defined by a component (a part or subassembly in assemblies, as well as a body in multibody parts), face, edge or vertex or by primitives such as a cube, cylinder or sphere.

To obtain a fluid region, you have to disable the component defining this region in the Component Control dialog box (see “Component Control” for details).
