Specify the Default Solid Material

On the Solids tab specify the default solid material from the Engineering Database.

Prerequisites

The Conduction option must be enabled on the Analysis type tab of the Wizard or General Settings dialog.

Procedure

  1. Select a solid material from the Solids list taken from the Engineering Database.

    -or-

Select one of the model’s materials listed under Solids in the model.

The selected material appears in the Default solid box.

To replace the default solid material, from the Solids list select a solid material with which you want to replace the current default solid material and the selected material appears in the Default solid box.

  2. Depending on the selected solid material and the specified Physical Features, you can also specify the following settings:
    • If the selected solid material has the Conductor type of electrical conductivity, then in presence of the electric current, the corresponding specific Joule heat is released and included in heat transfer calculations. Dielectric solids do not participate in this calculation. See “Joule Heating” for details.

    • If the selected solid material has the Unidirectional or Axisymmetrical/Biaxial type of thermal conductivity, click Anisotropy  to specify the anisotropy direction or axis (see “Specify a Direction for Anisotropic Thermal Conductivity” for details).

    • If you consider Radiation in your analysis, click Radiation Transparency  to specify the transparency of the default solid material to various types of radiation (see “Transparency and Absorption in Solids” for details). If the solid material is considered as fully or partially transparent to radiation, the Radiation properties of the material should be specified.

  3. If you are finished specifying parameters on the Solids tab:
    • In the Wizard dialog, click Next or click a link on the Navigator pane to switch to the corresponding tab of the Wizard.

    • In the General Settings dialog, click Apply to update and proceed with settings.

      - or -

Click OK to apply the changes and exit the dialog.
