Streamlines (Cut Plot)

Specifies display options for streamlines. Streamlines allow you to visualize field lines projected on the selected plane.

Prerequisites

You graphics card driver must support OpenGL® 3.3. Update your driver, if necessary.

Procedure

  1. Specify the way streamlines are displayed:
    • Evenly Spaced Lines . Displays the distribution of a vector parameter as evenly spaced plane streamlines.

    • LIC (Line Integral Convolution) . Displays the distribution of a vector parameter using Line Integral Convolution (LIC) technique. LIC provides a global dense representation of the flow, analogous to the resulting pattern of a tract of wind-blown sand.

  2. In the Parameter (or ) list, select a parameter, which distribution you want to visualize with streamlines.
  3. If the Evenly Spaced Lines  is selected, use the Spacing  slider or type the desired value in the box to control the distance between the lines starting points in the range from 6 to 128 pixels.
  4. If the LIC (Line Integral Convolution)  is selected, use the Length Scale  slider or type the desired value in the box to control the length of the displayed lines in the range from 4 to 128 pixels.
  5. Specifies the Width  of the displayed lines.

    If the Evenly Spaced Lines  is selected, set the value in the range from 2 to 16 pixels.

    If the LIC (Line Integral Convolution)  is selected, set the value in the range from 1 to 10 pixels.

  6. If the LIC (Line Integral Convolution)  is selected, use the Contrast  slider or type the desired value in the box to set the difference in brightness between displayed lines and background in the range from 0 to 1.
  7. If the LIC (Line Integral Convolution)  is selected, use the Density  slider or type the desired value in the box to control the line density scale of the displayed lines in the range from 0 to 1.
  8. In the Color by  list, select the way to color streamlines:
    • If you want to display the streamlines using a fixed color, select Fixed Color and click Color  button to specify this color.

    • If you want the streamlines to be colored in accordance with the distribution of the parameter, select By Parameter.

      • To see how a parameter changes within the specified range, click Adjust Minimum/Maximum and Number of Levels .

        Then specify the parameter Minimum  and Maximum values, which are the lowest and highest values to be displayed.

        To automatically set Minimum or Maximum to the parameter lowest value in the whole computational domain, click Auto Scale to Global Minimum  or Auto Scale to Global Maximum .

        To automatically set Minimum or Maximum to the parameter lowest value in the plot, click Auto Scale to Plot Minimum  or Auto Scale to Plot Maximum .

        Note:

        If the Auto Scale to Plot Minimum/Maximum mode is selected, the plot has its own color bar and the maximum and minimum values are updated accordingly to the displayed plot area when the plot is shown or exported.

        Then specify the Number of Levels .

      • For vector parameters with the separately listed X, Y and Z components you can select a Coordinate System  calculated. By default, the Global Coordinate System is selected.

        You can replace the Global Coordinate System by selecting your coordinate system in the flyout FeatureManager design tree.To create a coordinate system, click Insert > Reference Geometry > Coordinate System.
