A series
of calculation examples presented below validate the ability of SOLIDWORKS Flow
Simulation to
predict the essential features of various flows, as well as to solve
conjugate heat transfer problems (i.e. flow problems with heat transfer
in solids). In order to perform the validation accurately and to
present clear results which the user can check independently, relatively
simple examples have been selected. For each of the following examples,
exact analytical expression or well-documented experimental results
exist. Each of the examples focus on one or two particular physical
phenomena such as: laminar flow with or without heat transfer, turbulent
flows including vortex development, boundary layer separation and
heat transfer, compressible gas flow with shock and expansion waves.
Therefore, these examples validate the ability of Flow
Simulation to predict fundamental flow features
accurately. The accuracy of predictions can be extrapolated to typical
industrial examples (encountered every day by design engineers and
solved using Flow
Simulation),
which may include a combination of the above-mentioned physical
phenomena and geometries of arbitrary complexity.
